This is an example of the type of conversations I have 8 hours a day at work, while helping someone with skin lotion (teaching self care and nurturing): Me- see you have a callus here, did you know you have a callus? Them- Yeah, I wear that on the weekends.

Then a co-worker asked me for Halloween costume ideas; I said the Bride of Frankenstein; after 20 seconds of further conversation, I realized she had no idea who the Bride of Frankenstein is.

I can't recall the last time I spoke with anyone normal, what would I say? Is conversation a perishable skill?

No social intercourse is and always been limited to the intelligent and articulate people with a penchant for effective and insightful communication. The rest are simply doing the best possible with limited capacity...

Yes, sort of. Perishable is not the word I would choose, but fluid is how I would describe conversation. The spoken word changes always. We blend words, combine languages and accents, and move quickly past words that are no longer in use. For example, antimacassar and davenport. So with so many movies to see in the recent years younger folks might not know about the bride of Frankenstein. Bride of Chuckie would be more their speed. The spoken word is fluid and ever changing. If someone does not keep up with that change, they are not necessarily abnormal, just lacking a past or stuck, not interested in change. As for what that person wears on a weekend that sounds like callus, I have no clue. LOL

I think you need to get out and socialize more with your own peers.

Burnout is very real in healthcare.

No, the art of conversation is not dying, if you don't pick a conversation with someone who has their nose stuck in their phone the whole time.

What a condescending statement.
You mean those who THINK they are above others are simply stuck up their own back sides, that's more like it wouldn't one agree.

One skill that is perishable is talking on the phone. People want to text. Hell.....even important business decisions are handled through 581 texts within 10 minutes. laugh

Conversation is an artform, and requires practice to maintain the skillset.
