I think I'd go for a cat :)
They do whatever the heck they want, whenever they want, if need be can get their own food, can survive on their own and get to engage themselves in the occasional cat-fight.
I'm also more of a night-person, so cool!
Plus .. when you're sweet and purr a lot, you get cuddled and petted
Cat-sex isn't all that great from what I can work out, but you can't win 'em all

I'm realizing I am more and more like a Wolverine.

With the exception of Mingle2! Socializing with people is becoming more of a chore, and I'm just not liking it. Add the fact that I like to roam in a way. Never seem to have set hours for myself. I prefer the night time, but have to resort to foraging during the day since my vision at night kinda sucks. I have a tendency to lash out when provoked, and being I haven't had children. Kinda coincides with this land mammal being one of the slowest to reproduce.
