What does it mean when a man shake hands with excessive strength to meet or to salute another man? With ladies; generally;he has another different behavior.

What does he want to prove to people with this behavior?

It is an ancient ritual to show conversation
is not required among real cave men.

'Ugh.'
'Ugh.'

Over-pressurized means, 'Ugh, I want your woman.'
Soft handshakes mean they want you.

What does it mean when a man shake hands with excessive strength to meet or to salute another man?

Could mean many things.

Maybe the guy just believes the other is using excessive strength when it's his normal grip. Some people have really weak grips so a normal grip feels excessive.

Could be that's the way his dad trained him to shake hands and he's just doing what he thinks he's supposed to.

Could be he's trying to assert dominance.
Could be it's completely subconscious and it doesn't really mean anything at all.

Could be he's under stress and hates the guy he's shaking hands with so wants to hurt him.
Could be he's trying to force the other to show a sign of pain and therefore weakness.

Could be the other guy is bigger so the one guy thinks the other is going to go use excessive strength going into the handshake, attempts to match it, but he overcompensates.

Could be a sign of respect, respecting the other guys strength so he uses all of his strength.

What does he want to prove to people with this behavior?

Ask him.

It's a subconscious display of implied dominance, or a masochistic way of over compensation for perceived short comings. Whatever excuse you want to give for it, it's mean and uncalled for especially when used on strangers.

I've run across more than one reason for an overdone handshake.

* the guy is showing off for a gal who's there too;

* the guy's had too much caffeine;

* somebody else just over shook his hand, so he thinks he should do it too;

* some where in his past, some fool told him that a firm handshake establishes that EVERYONE likes the guy with the toughest handshake best;

* the guy is nervous as hell, doesn't want to show it, so he shows it over and over, by overdoing everything.

Hi Ugg here. Did some cavewoman call Ugg name? Well round heads, handshake history, sit round fire. Well my great old relative say he started handshake. Started as a wife courting ritual. My relative and this neanderthal were hunting for wife. Saw a pretty big cave woman. Two Kapow clubs flew! REDHEAD! Worth her weight in Sabre tooth tusks! So my relatives went into bush to drag his wife away by her hair. When he pulled her out, he was holding neanderthal hand. Funny, neanderthal was hold onto my relative hand too. They were throwing each other into rocks, biting each other, in Ugg eyes good fight! Don't get that on Youtube. well, the day was leaving and the moon was waking up. The fight had come down to trying to shake hands to death.
Ugg say funny part come now. Redhead wakes up and sees this. WHO HIT CAVEWOMAN IN HEADBONE??
While still shaking hands, they both pointed at each other. Cave woman took big hands and make two big fists. She hit relative in sand stones! Then she walk over to neanderthal and hit him in twig and berries. They both stop shaking hands, fell on floor and started shaking all night. Good times. Well that how first handshake went down. Ugg very proud! bigsmile

We don't mean to and yet in social or professional there is a different hand shake for me.
Business is a semi strong quick brief strong shakes. Pleasure or social is more of a half hand shake , where I only engage half of my hand lol

I do have a friend that is a carver and he has no clue how hard he grabs

Its a power trip to assert dominance....
It can shot down quite simply....
When it happens to you, call the guy out...

"woah man....now lets shake again this time be more gentle"

His power trip is instantly negated...and you have the power....hehe....

I always thought if you had a strong handshake it meant you spent too much time.... choking your chicken..
Lol..... I've never been accused of having a weak handshake...lol

I also thought it had something to do with showing the other person that you are not carrying a weapon.. or something like that.. but I know a strong handshake is very important..
Whenever I give or receive a weak handshake I immediately want a redo..
It says something about the person you are.. if you can't even do a handshake properly .. then it calls into question your whole character as a human being..lol
