Is it not funny...
Not as funny as the people that seem to believe the match feature is some kind of magic matching service that has access to the "good ones" profiles located in the back room stock shelves of the dating website, or it's some kind of oracle that has ultimate power and knowledge over its members.
Instead of having you manually search for people, we show you singles who live near you
That's from the match page. Although, the text has been edited since the last time I quoted it. It used to have a section about using random profiles.
All any match feature on any website ultimately does is show you random profiles you only have to click yes, no, or maybe to.
There is no magic formula that matches people based on anything meaningful (even the website famous for promoting their magic algorithm has no credible evidence it works in any way).
At best algos look for keywords in your profile, and looks for keywords in another profile. "Profile A has cyclo in his profile name, Profile B has cycling in her profile, c y c l = 3 points compatibility, populate page X with profile B for profile A."
thanx for being like every other site.
What exactly are you expecting?
That you don't really have to do any work or put any thought into it at all?
That you won't have to search through profiles?
That the website is just going to hand you your perfect match on Monday, you can click a button and avoid all that yucky uncertainty in approaching, and Tuesday you can be dating the love of your life, and it's all guaranteed by the website because they have a match feature?
Match features are a placebo at best.
They can be helpful, though. They should be used as a means to see how you are being matched, to figure out how they're matching you and see if you are using that method in your own search, or how that sparks your imagination to improve your own personal search, how better to read profiles and put all the information profiles provide together.
