mold establishment in buildings with water damage can significantly affect the price of homes. The microbial volatile organic compounds produced by mold car is a place to have a depressing feeling that is somewhat unexplainable. This can also make people very sick if they live with it long-term, leading to allergies and neurological problems. It is like eating mushrooms. mold in a building is very hard to get rid of. however, one tried and true way to kill mold is with heat, because heat easily gets through the cell wall of the spores, and the DNA inside is very fragile to heat. Virtually all mold is killed above 150F. this is slightly hotter than a sauna. One could take an old house that has mold and low property value, bake the whole house with a heater and fans to circulate the hot air everywhere, at the hottest time of the summer. One may want to dehumidify the inside for a week in advance so that there is no expansion and warping due to drying rapidly during the heating. then the home value would be much higher, after one also fixed the original source of the water that caused the mold.

Good idea or bad idea? Any thoughts?

i think it would be much easier to spray it with household bleach

as well as killing the mould it also disinfectes

The real problem with moisture in a house is that the house will not last as long irrespective of whether there are inhabitants or not

Here on the Gulf coast of Mississippi there is a lot of houses (and businesses) with mold. Some still haven't reopened since Katrina. Most never will.

Bleach does not 'get rid of' mold. Its a temporary fix.
I read 'tree oil' works to get rid of some molds but its expensive and doesn't work with some (flood damage 'black' mold).

It gets very hot here. A closed up house or business gets surprisingly hot during the summer. Heat will not kill off certain molds.
Ventilation is prudent in this area. Most newer construction here includes some type of 'attic fan' to keep the place ventilated.
Air conditioning also dehumidifies.

We are close to sea level. Our water table is very close to the surface.
We get ocean breezes and a lot of rain. Humidity is extremely high in the summer. Most buildings, even new construction have mold.

Only some molds are hazardous.
Only some people are sensitive to some molds.
There is probably some type of mold present in your house, your workplace , your car, your yard and on every surface you come into contact with.
Black mold is a range of molds falling under the grouping of black mold.
For more info, search out "Black Molds".
Black mold can cause a building to be classified as condemned.

Molds, in general, saturate the landscape wherever water is present. Its part of nature.
If all people suddenly disappeared, everything would get moldy rather quickly.
There is no 'fix' for molds in general.

Odoban is about 10 bucks a gallon. For mold & mildew 'control' use 5oz per gallon of water. So, for coverage figure how much 1 gallon of water will cover.
A simple rule of thumb would be to figure out how much paint you would need to cover every surface of walls, ceiling and floor, then add for fixtures, trim and other surfaces.

Then, instructions say to repeat the whole process every 7 days to control new growth.

The container also says it is hazardous to humans and domestic animals so while you are coating everything - use personal protection and remove your pets from the house (every 7 days).
