To be or not to be....

Robot dogs can now be brought as digital toys <cough cough> I mean pets for nearly 3000.00. Humanoids humans in the making, robot dogs...what next? Do we really want to live in a future world of cold hard steel all around us devoid of flesh and beautiful nature?

The first known robotic pet was a robot dog called Sparko, built by the American company Westinghouse in 1940. It never got sold due to poor public interest. The first robotic pets to be put on the market were Hasbro's Furby in 1998 and Sony's AIBO in 1999. Since then, robotic pets have grown increasingly advanced.

You can get a "robot dog" on Amazon for as little as fifteen bucks.

Real dogs sell for as little as fifty bucks to thousands for a pure bred with champion breeding.

Yeah but aren't those fifteen dollars robots made for kids? The one shown above is for adults, the domestic version of the military kind. The price dropping to a few hundreds in a couple of years, will see a demand for them. Great for those who want a robot dog without feeding it and taking it to the vet but imagine a world surrounded by robotic animals and humans!

Happy little robot mutts
have been around, and sold
commercially, since the 1980s.

The early models yapped, did flips,
and we're often a waste of batteries.

Thanks for posting this. I find it disconcerting and amazing to see such sophistication for such a low price, starting at $1600. It highlights the technological advancements in robotics and manufacturing, it makes me wonder what else we shall see in the coming years. You are right the price will drop, they will probably offer them in kit form so you can build one your self, reducing prices further. I think if they were twice the current size they would be very intimidating, and given a good growling sound, terrifying.scared Maybe a possible use as a guard dog in banks. smile2

If it can duck hunt and comes with a jump pack, air compressor and beer cooler I'm interested. Oh, if it's a sturdy enough unit I would like a 10000# winch and add a gun rack please
