Those are good Abra! You look as if you have improved already. Those are more detailed than some of your previous drawings and less "left brain symbolic" looking.

I'm starting to draw on the right side of my brain. bigsmile

I did four drawings of stuff I had laying around the house. They parot and the fish were drawn from ceramic statues.

Oh my goodness! I'm going to have to get that book! I want to draw!!!

I bought two very large selenite crystals. I wasn't paying attention when I purchased them. I was going to use them for wand tips. But when I got them they were huge. They are at least 2 inches in diameter and about 4 inches tall. They are heavy! They feel like a 5-lb. bag of sugar. I never weighed them but it's going to be close to that.

Anyway, I read up on they and discovered quite by accident that selenite crystals are supposed to be good for inducing lucid dreams. So I've placed them on the headboard of my bed. One to the right and one to the left.

My place does have a habit of getting quite dusty. And I would normally wash something like these crystals off. So if that grounds them then maybe that's not a good idea. Although if I can recharge them it seems to me that grounding them wouldn't hurt.

In any case, should I maybe put covers over them during the day to keep the dust off and just uncover them at night when I go to sleep?

The other thing I was thinking about was building light boxes for them and illuminate them at night. At first I was thinking of doing this just for the visual appeal. But then I read where putting crystals on light boxes is supposed to excite them and give them energy to transform into their own wavelength.

I have been going through some changes since I've bought. But then again, when I am not going through changes? laugh

I feel a deep-seated urge to become more organized and more productive. But then again, I think I actually felt that way about becoming involved with witchcraft which is one of the reasons I bought the crystals in the first place.

I also have a very nice quartz crystal that I want to use as a wand tip. I've been keeping it in the cloth bag it came in for now.

Finally, I bought some polished amethyst stones.

I have no clue why. laugh

The just called to me.

I have an intuitive desire to incorporate them into the handle of magic wand. I haven't even picked out a branch to use as a handle yet, although I have my eye on a knurly one. I just need to cut it off the tree and get to work making the magic wand. I'm not sure precisely how to attach the quartz tip. I don't like the idea of gluing it on. I was thinking about making a wire frame (or a leather lace) to strap it onto the handle.

I would like to learn how to make decent crystal wands. I'm hoping to make several wands to give to other witches, but I ordered the wrong crystals. laugh

Not to fear, I'm ordering some quartz tips as we speak.

Selenite does react well when it is heated, it does energize them more and they become more active. All you have to do is blow the dust off, or you can go to the womens cosmetics section and get a blush or powder brush and use that (the softer the brush the better). By the way that piece of selenite is beautiful. Considering how large it is, it probably cost you a fortune.

Tips for making wands...

Use ether wire or leather for attaching a tip to it whether it's quartz crystal or something else. Leather is more preferable due to the damage wire can cause.

Carve the holes deep enough for the other stones you will use but slightly smaller than their diameter, so you can pop them in there rather than glue them in.

Amethyst is an excellent stone for wands and that's the reason they called to you.

When ou get ready to make your wand and you wat a particular branch from a tree, make sure you ask the tree for permission to take the branch and the reason why. Many times when you ask and give the reason, the tree can be as bold with allowing it as to break it off itself, but most times it will drop that branch down lower in order to make it mor accessable. When you ask the tree permission, plant flower seeds at the base of the tree or something that particular tree will use to flourish. NOTE: Only take the absolute neccessary length of branch you need for your wand, don't take more than that or it will think you are being over zealous.

When making wands for others, have them pick their own stones for it and their branch. This way it is suited to them.

As far as ordering "the wrong crystals"...You never order the wrong crystals, there's always a reason why they were ordered.

It is indeed an excellent book. I got the spiral-bound workbook that goes with it too.

I'm "cheating" a little bit from what she actually teaches. Although, not really, because she suggests "doing your own thing" and says that the more you draw the better.

The very first exercises that she wants you to do is draw a self-portrait by looking into a mirror. A picture of your hand, and finally a drawing of a corner of a room with or without clutter.

These are to be your 'pre-instruction' drawings.

Well, I knew that if I did them cold they would truly be terrible. So just flipping on to the next extercise in the book I see a page where we are supposed to practice drawing different kind of marks that various artists like Van Gogh and other had used.

She just wanted the studdent to 'scribble' down the marks to get used to making them. But I decided that instead of just making scribbles I'd draw stuff I had laying around.

For example I used Ben Shahn marks to draw the leaf candle holder, then Matisse marks to draw the paintbrush, then Van Gogh marks to draw the parot, and finally Delacrois marks to draw the fish.

Of course I had to use a lot of my own markings as well to draw the entire objects.

Also, the one thing that I took to heart already is not to think about the object that I'm drawing. In other words, I wasn't trying to draw a candle holder, a paintbrush, a parot of fish. I was just drawing the lines and shapes that I could see.

The objects just miraculously appeared. laugh

So yes, this is a whole different approach from the way I used to try to draw things.

Now I'm just drawing lines and shapes without thinking about what it is that I'm actually drawing.

So I guess I've already got the gist of the idea. And I'm just starting out. :wink:

They weren't too bad really. In fact, when I bought them I thought they were much smaller. They were actaully listed under "wand points".

Yes, I have set cystals before for use in electronics. They usually had holders that held them with the least amount of touching so that they could vibrate. When I was very young I had a cystral radio and you picked up different stations depending on where you placed a needle on the crystal. I also remember that how the crystal was set in its holder would greatly affect how loud the radio station would come in.

I imagine the crystals in wants need to be free to vibrate as well. Building a wand can be a real art. There are probably books of information on that. Owl have to look into it. I'd really like to become a builder of wands.

Well, these were going to be surprise gifts. But with the price crystals I might be better off asking people to buy they own stones at least.

I haven't done freehand drawing with a pencil for a long time. I mostly just paint.

I might try to get back to that and do a quick sketch of myself in a mirror, then scan it and revers it so it will not be a mirror image.

It's going to be pretty bad I'm sure.

Keep in mind that this is a 'pre-instruction' drawing. Hopefully owl be able to do much better by the end of the book.

I haven't done the self-portrait yet, but I might try it tonight. I wanted to get at least a warm up drawing a few things before I jumped right into the self-portrait.

I think the author wants people to draw their self-portrait as "cold" as possible so that they will feel they have vastly improved after taking her course.

As an example, some of her students were doing almost 'stick-figure' type drawings to start with, and then looked they were Rembrant after the course. laugh

I hope I improve as much!

Maybe that they are perfectly tuned to you for divination?
They are at least pretty. The Selenite crystal is actually beautiful. If anything it would be a nice display piece.

Yes it is a caricature. I used to do caricatures for a living. A Nice way to make some quick money.

I can do caricatures on the computer too, starting with a photograph. I'll do one of those and post it.

I did it. It's pretty bad, but there it is.

The right eye isn't too bad, but the left on is horrible. I always have trouble when it comes to things that have symetrical features. I find it really hard to draw two similar things in perfect proportion to each other.

I find it very difficult to draw a self-portrait whilst looking in a mirror. Everytime you look you have a different expression on your face. laugh

I was wearing a bandana tonight which make it nice for not having to draw hair.

Pretty good Abra! You have a lot of real potential.

I have a great pdf book on how to learn to paint I will give you if you are interested. You can download it.... if I can remember where I put it. It is one of the best how to paint books I have ever seen. It also has lots of information about supplies and color mixing.
