I've tried to find a decent "full" Band version on youtube to no avail. The Band are so flipping underappreciated it is almost a crime. Richard Manuel's suicide still makes me very sad.

I'm ashamed to say that I have just recently discovered them. I was strictly into c/w back then..

Despite their relatively small catalog, they are in my all time top ten. Did you know that Eric Clapton disabanded Cream and formed Blind Faith after he heard Music From Big Pink?

Ya think he might have chosen Steve Winwood because of the vocal similarity to Richard Manuel?

Hey, Man-O!

If you're getting acclamated to The Band, try to see their film, "The Last Waltz" . It was done as homage to their parting ways as a group. It is well done and packed w/ good music. There are many other music legends' performances within in it, from those they counted as dear friends.

Fantastic!drinker

I love the Last Waltz, but it also bothers me. The friendship between Robertson and Scorcese skews the film.

smokin The Band was, as much as any group I can remember, a collaborative effort. You'd think Robertson was a one man show with the amount of face time he gets. If he was the man behind the music then how do you explain his solo career? He's never come close to writing anything as good. smokin

Yes, well, might have forgotten that bit. I'm left w/ the musical impressions after all these years. Still, good for a reference point for a newbie to them. And, now - you've given the biased rating warning, so we're good to go!laugh

I did like his first solo album. Methinks I best get you a couple of midday shots of ouzo. I'm sorry that I reminded you of so much pain.

It's not my pain, but I'm pretty sure that Levon Helm is not too happy (right until this very day)
