Good melodies but unoriginal at best. Insipid and dull as the norm. Vomit inducing at its worst.

Someone explain why these bands sell so many records?

power of corporate suggestion. one would be suprized at how lame a song can be popular, no matter how many times it's played, while the really great, non-repeditive songs get played once in a while, then fade off the charts......

Cause the industry signs & shapes these bands to meet their formulas to sell the most records. They shove this autotuned rap/rock crap down the teenie bopper's throats on MTV to get their mummies to buy it for them.

They don't care if it's original or talented; it's an industry concerned only in the mighty dollar. I'm not sure exactly how they can sell the stuff as it doesn't suit my tastes whatsoever. They must know something I don't about marketing, cause to me, I think I'd have a hard time selling a turd.

That is why I wind up listening to stuff like the Murderdolls....lol

Keep in mind that most of today's music is meant for young people who don't have the savvy to truly digest music more complex than three chords.

Yessir.

It's all about repetition. Easy repetitive melodies that require no thought to process. Repetitive lyrics that catch the juveniles attention. Repetitive songwriting formula. Songs that are easily learned and played by those garage band types that idolize the latest MTV/radio band.

Bach, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky are rolling in their graves.

Perfectly stated. Music has nothing to do with talent anymore, it only has to do with money.

I've noticed it mentioned here about "simple melodies", and this goes back to what I've already been saying for many years. The word, "simple", is not the word we should be focusing on. We should instead be focusing on the word, "melodies". Songwriting has become a lost art, and I honestly believe that it's because music has become so melody-based, as opposed to harmony-based like it used to be. It's as though what passes as "music" today, as well as the people who buy into it, will get confused if it has more than three notes.

There is a reason why the songs of yesteryear have stood the test of time, and the crap that's put out today is, for all intents and purposes, a "flash in the pan" or "flavor of the week". None of the sh!t that's put out today will have the longevity of the songs from years gone by.

Thats why I veg out and stay home jammin to music when music was music.

A musician proved their worth by what they played, how they played it.

Not this corporate looped chitt they try to pass off as muzak today.
