I watched that last night on tv....she was brill, and she lives only about a 20 min drive away from where i live, so she will be getting my support!

i don't get it...

she is not THAT hideous looking that it should come at SUCH a shock that she has an insanely beautiful voice...

all this shock and amazement makes me sort of feel bad for her

edit - i personally thought she was adorable even before she opened her mouth to sing and i felt out of the loop as to why people in the audience were rolling their eyes at her. then she opened her mouth to sing and it was beautiful. but there was no utter dumbfounded shock i felt because it was obvious that if this was newsworthy it was probably something pretty good.

i'm not disputing that she has a voice which should rightfully earn her the notoriety she is getting... i just don't see the same "before" picture as everyone else is seeing.

Agreed, I felt really bad for her, the initial reception was painful. And then, the shock that she was SO good was equally offensive. I wanted the applause to stop, that the beauty of her voice, alone, could carry.

Also, I didn't find her in the least hideous, quite cute actually. She could do w/ a clothing makeover or a dresser though. That frock and those shoes ... Eek!

Just shows how ageist a mentality is rampant in the need for overblown, fresh eye~candy before raw talent. Sad commentary ...
