Can these 2 bands be considered?
Even though they were collabratted through aquaintances in the music business.
Spooky Tooth also had an American (Gary Wright) in it even though they were considered a British Band.
They all kicked azz no matter what.
I guess there were all a bit of both!
You could even argue that the Jimi Hendrix Experience was a British band, considering two of the members were British and that they began their career over here.
But i wouldnt argue that too strongly as obviously Jimi was by far the most important musician and his influences were mainly american.
I totally agree with you On the Jimi Hendrix Experience. They were a British band. Would we have ever heard of Jimi Hendrix without Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell? They were a very tight rhythm section that held it together so Hendrix could explore what he could with his guitar work.
The British imported the Blues from America, and exported the blues back over here.
I remember watching it was either Hullabaloo or Shindig. The Rolling Stones were the guest stars. The host of the show asked them who they would like to have guest star with them. Keith Richards and Brian Jones requested Howlin` Wolf. The announcer had never heard of him. Imagine the audience when Howlin` Wolf came out and blew the roof off the dump with the members of the Stones just watching him in admiration. That is one moment of music history I will never forget.
Jimi would have made it without Noel and Mitch.
Jimi had already been 'discovered' by Chas Chandler, who then set up auditions for Jimi to choose the rest of the band. Mitch Mitchell was by and far the best drummer to audition, and the quality of his playing is not questionable. Noel, on the other hand mainly got the gig because of his hair, believe it or not. Whilst he was competant, i dont think he was anywhere near outstanding. The bass Billy Cox played for Jimi was in a whole new league.
Jimi needed a good band behind him, but any band that he himself was happy with, was enough for him to let his creative juices flow. The music was all jimi, with very little influence really from the others.
I have seen the video you are referring to with the stones and Howlin'. The Stones were certainly responsible for bring the great American blues artists into the popular limelight.
Thought I could slip that by. But since I'm busted too bad! U2 is from that part of the world and I want them on my thread!!!!
