I enjoy a wide variety of Rock these days from Breaking Benjamin to Slipknot & American Head Charge. Listening to such a wide variety has really inspired me to up my playing of guitar! Some like 'em heavier than others,SO! The question remains! How heavy do you like your Rock? :smile:

Heavy? Hmm. Early "heavy" stuff: Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly, Mountain, Steppenwolf, Deep Purple, Blue Öyster Cult... you get the idea.

Led Zeppelin encompasses all hard rock ever needed to be, say, or do. Every hard rock band that's come along since has been derivative in some way. smokin

jeebus. Good topic.

Everything from The Moody Blues to The Darkness. Both as far as age and style. I dig everything in between. Erm, I think The Darkness is a bit of an anomally on the present trends. I suppose I don't "get" the music of my generation.

FWIW, here's the next three rock bands on my iPod:
Queen, Alice Cooper, Led Zeppelin. Long Away, Eighteen, and Ten Years Gone are the next songs to play.

To Mighty Mouse:

Led Zep is hugely important as far as the history of rock, but other bands have done some pretty cool things that Zep could not have gotten away with.

Yeah, I agree Zeppelin is a major factor, but there are others. Take Cream or the Jeff Beck Group. What do those three bands have in common? The Yardbirds, of course. The guitarists went their different ways and produced their own major musical influences. Note: John Paul Jones even sessioned with the Yardbirds.

Anyway, another band I just thought of to add to my list besides Cream, etc.: Blue Cheer

I am talking strictly HARD ROCK in its completed form. Zeppelin said it all. As far as I'm concerned the genre could've stopped after Bonham died and I would not have missed anything radically different

If you want the roots of it you also need to factor in when Dave Davies sliced the cones of his "little green amp" and came up with that distorted sound.

Yeah Yeah and you forgot MC5 too. They all had a hand in birthing it, but Zeppelin is the Mt. Everest of hard rock.

I've been listening to some Led Zep recently, quite like some of it.

The music knowledge of you 2 young people really impresses me. I sincerely mean this. You have both gotten ahold of music that will be with you the rest of your days.

It is not often that I run into people on here someone of your ages that have grasped the older "Classic Rock" and appreciate what the musicians from back then were trying to accomplish and they successfully did.

Today, most bands play from what is in their head, and not what is in their heart. There are exceptions to every rule.

It is a pleasure and an honor meeting both of you.

As Steve Marriott from Humble Pie would say: "Rock On".

Yes, I also do like some of today`s groups that are out there doing what they do best.

gotta agree with rara, you two know what it's all about!! and i have to say both my kids listened to led zeppelin when they were in the womb. whenever i say 'whose the greatest rock band of all times'... they heartly agree 'led zeppelin'. :wink:
