So I'm riding along in the car looking for something good on the radio, when low and behold, and Opeth cover of an Iron Maiden song comes up. Its a classic of theirs off their second album, but the DJ doesn't even know who the band is calling them "Some band covering Iron Maiden off this new album". That's verbatim. Anybody else with fun DJ stories out there?
Believe it or not I was too happy Opeth was on the radio to be bothered by the uninformed DJ. I just thought it was funny. Also thought it was funny when they came here on tour and the DJ announced them as "Opith". It amazes me that even though they've got nine studio albums and have gone on back to back world tours with artists such as Megadeth and Dream Theater, still almost nobody knows who they are.
my old sn, BillysuVOL...well, whether or not anyone cared....but, suVOL was the first two letters in my last name......plus VOL for Tennessee VOLunteers.
And well....I moved back to Ohio...and I dont like the Vols...and I havent been online in a while...and I been stuck on this "color" matters thing and the last post I made on suVOL was ridiculously stupid......so...I decided being back in OHIO...I needed to start over
Instead of doin, BillySubuc....I chose 14shadesofgray.....which is a key in to two things, my favorite color and music....
however Staind is not one of my favorite bands....but it is definitely a very very good conversation starter, dontcha think?
Well its a great album title, and the band is fortunately much better known than Opeth (at least in the states). Still, don't be surprised if you get a lot of letters opening with "So, you like Staind...."
Lol, I get it. You like their music ok but they're not one of your favorite bands. You might listen to them on the radio but wouldn't necessarily buy their music. I've got a handful of artists like that.
but i have a good friend.....she is IN LOVE with staind
i mean, in love.......so i kind of dig it
i can see how she digs it, ya know?
but, i just cant..........7 cds? and.....i dunno
but they are talented as hell
and aaron lewis? his lyrics r poetic
she was reading me a rolling stone with them in it, said the producer of something to do with something to do with staind and fred durst also worked with soundgarden
now that i like
me? I'm more of a soundgarden audioslave stp collective soul kind of guy...........but, i listen to all kinds of stuff, just like you i am sure, however i only listen as long as i want, bc i enjoy music, know what i mean?
my personality is 14 shades of gray................but then again, i love the key in to music and i have no problem starting the conversation with staind
Yeah, I always liked that album title. Not talking about the music on it, lol. Its so descriptive in so many ways. I think I got what you mean though. Think I've recommended them already but have you heard Porcupine Tree? They mix a lot of styles, come off as an interesting cross between soft and hard rock.

ya see what i mean now? lol
wb, but you're gonna be billy until i get used to the new name...
There was a DJ here in Louisville that had a girl on her cell phone while she was boinking her boyfriend outside of a police station. Needless to say he is no longer on the air.......
I've been a DJ on and off since 1986. People without musical knowledge should not be doing the job. Most of the young and up and coming DJs are just button pushers, with no knowledge of music history. be seeing you

Amen to that. I'll be the first to admit that there's far too much music out there for any one person to know everthing.. but you have people on the radio these days that don't know who the Beatles or Pink Floyd are. If you really only listen to one genre and that's what you stick to, fine. But when you aren't aware of that genre's roots or internationally recognized acts just because they don't get played on the radio... well that's the problem right there isn't it. An endless cycle of ignorance. And why I don't listen to the radio when I can help it.

Brother. I think that people with limited musical knowledge should not work in record stores. I was in a record store the other day, when an older gentleman asked a bimbo clerk where he could find Tony Bennett CDs. Her reply,'I have never heard of him,let me check the computer and see if we carry anything by him.'. This bimbo should be working at a Burger King, not a record store. be seeing you
