I love the Bowie/Eno stuff (even the later collaborations like "Outside") -- Eno approaches the whole process from such a different angle than "real" musicians, i.e., Bowie, John Cale, Robert Fripp, etc. --

Eno did a book called "A Year With Swollen Appendices," a sort of diary-type thing, in which he talks about some of the interactions with Bowie. Interesting inside stuff.

These guys are two of my musical heroes....

As a life-long Bowie fan I find this the biggest curiosity of Bowie's catalog. I prefer the Ziggy Stardust albums and the Brian Eno Trilogy of albums (Low, Lodger & Heroes) but Diamond Dogs contains my favorite and least favorite of all his songs one one LP. The mix sounds muddy and screwed up compared to most of his other records. This could be due to over-production or the general drug abuse goin' on behind the scenes. The Live album "Live At The Tower" documented this tour. It featured guitarist Earl Slick, who I was fortunate to become friends with in the late 80"s.

Ive got that LP, its probably the most interesting in terms of its artwork if nothing else. I think a lot of Bowie's production back then wasnt all that great, but sometimes his unique style allowed him to get away with it. Diamond Dogs is a concept album which doesnt quite work. Unlike 'The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars', which is a perfect concept album. The individual songs arent all great, but together they make an album which works best listened to from start to finsh.
