my apologies if there has been a thread like this before. I love opera. my favorite is Lucia di Lammermore. If anyone has seen the fifth element, the aria that the blue alien diva sings is from this opera. just to let ya know. So come on peeps, any mingle opera buffs?

when i was 11 I saw fred astaire in a royal wedding. i fell in love with musicals. then i watched Carmen. that was it, I was hooked. I don't get when people say they can't stand opera cuz they sing in a different language. It's the emotion of the words themselves that means something, not the literal translation. to me anyhoo.

I love the film Diva ... Think it made me appreciate Opera for the first time ...

It more often annoys me than soothes me, though, truth be told!

Along the same lines as formulaic COMMERCIAL Country, really grates on me ...

I do love the "Rock Opera" genre, however ...

As in, "Tommy" and "Jesus Christ Superstar", "Hair" and the like ...

I'm a Verdi fan myself, but there are a lot of other good writers out there. If I move somewhere where it is likely to be produced, I would like to write an opera myself.

My opinion of the best male tenor who never sang opera--but should have; MARIO LANZA
