The story goes that sometime in the 1800's a newly married couple took a job running a light house off the coast of Maine. They had to stay for 6 months at a time due to turbulent conditions of tide and what not. It was an isolating job. They were the only people there. (keep in mind...this is the 1800's. No radio, TV, etc....) Well...this man's wife started to grow depressed. He was worried about her. He knew she used to play piano so he had arranged for a piano to be shipped to the island as soon as it was possible to sail there. They delivered it and she was delighted. Only problem was that they only brought one piece of sheet music, see? It was Moonlight Sonata. She played it...played it some more...played it over and over and over again. Time after time...day after day. The husband BEGGED her to stop. She wouldn't stop. Finally he resorted to killing her with an ax. Then he killed himself.....

wow, i had never heard that before, eery...and what is weird is that song is haunting enough to picture that happening. what a story, hmmm...wonder if a movie has ever been made off that premise??

It's a pretty creepy story. The lighthouse is thought to be haunted.....

Rumor has it that Beethoven conducted the premier of the 9th. Nobody outside of his family and closest friends knew he was deaf. Well...the symphony was a success...but after the piece was over Beethoven kept conducting...unaware that the piece was complete. Somebody had to come up to the podium and stop him. This is when people realized......

As I understood the story, he knew the piece was done, but couldn't hear the applause. Someone had to turn him around to see it. It doesn't make sense that he wouldn't know that it was done, because the conductor can see all the musicians and would know if they were done.(the musicians would have put down their bows and so forth)

Yea...yr right! I thought of that too. How could he conduct it if he couldn't follow it, right? At least in his head. Yr scenario makes way more sense.

BTW...If you're a Beethoven fan, there's a pretty good bio film about him called "Immortal Beloved".

I've seen it...and it IS awesome.
