Do you consider yourself a "deep" and intelligent person? How would you define the term "deep?"...Do people in your life view you as "smart?" What does it mean to be "smart?" Is intelligence based on the abilty to "store" and memorize facts and figures and data? Or is about thinking in independent ways? Just some "food for thought" on a lazy Sunday morning...

Robots store data doesn't meant there smart

I believe someone who is very adaptable to all social situation and environments is intelligent

someone who can manipulate and teach as well as sit back and soak stuff up at times is a smart person

A deep person is someone who finds purpose in his or her life someone who realizes the reason why they are smart is because the admit they are dumb

Socrates, Plata, and Aristotle talk about these things as well as the Sage Lao Tzu and The Buddhas

There are nine different types of intelligences.

http://skyview.vansd.org/lschmidt/Projects/The%20Nine%20Types%20of%20Intelligence.htm

In order to answer if one is "intelligent," that person would have to excel in one of those intelligences. However, excelling in one area does not guarantee excelling in others. I score high in several, but I suck at Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence and am mediocre in Logical-Mathematical Intelligence. Note, this lack only applies to match: I have great logic in other areas such as problem solving.

So a person can be both intelligent and stupid. I have met quite a few people who do not excel in any of the nine types of intelligences.

There are other ways to determine intelligence, including IQ tests. Many IQ tests, however, do not quantify raw intelligence, but what a person knows or has learned. When I took the NTE, I got a 98% in the language and fine arts section, but someone who is not as well read as I am wouldn't have done as well--even if he/she had the potential to do well.

When I have heard a person described as "deep," it usually referred to their ideas about esoteric matters.

I know that I am smart in my field; I have been told that I am deep and that I think too much. I don't know how to think less. I do not necessarily consider myself "deep," but I do tend to look at the universe in a slightly different perspective than others. I have been called weird, strange, eccentric, free spirited, different, subversive, dark, enlightened and enlightening . . . but I choose to be just "me."

I disagree. I know lots of Christians who find purpose in their lives, but they are dumb as posts.

I do, however, agree that we begin to attain wisdom when we realize how little we know. Knowledge is another matter and is easy to attain if one has the brain capacity.

I probably define "deep" as taking the time to examine all "sides" to an issue or situation...There is always "more" to see and look at and think about "below the surface" or "in between the lines." I try to avoid "black and white" and "either/or" type of thinking....How about you? Thanks for your posts and insights.

I'm more comfortable with the statement "there are at least nine different types of intelligence", as I've seen this broken down different ways. (Of course, this only strengthens your point.)

So a person can be both intelligent and stupid.

There are people who consider me smart. I believe that I have a good grasp on things but would not consider myself smart.

As for deep, I believe depth means that a person takes a thought or information and delves into it at all levels instead of just accepting it as the plain information given.

I do delve into things sometimes so maybe not so deep or sometimes deep.

Finding purpose is finding fulfillment in one's life tht is what I was referring to and religion alone can't do this

Being Smart is knowing how to use logic and instincts to solve problems being wise is knowing when to use which one

Logic needs to consider emotions...For instance someone may not assert themselves when it comes to taking care of a problem in their life...To an outsider this makes no sense at all. Why isn't the person trying to deal with the problem?...But what can't be seen are all the layers of hidden emotions and insecurities that are buried deep within the person's subconscious...Each layer needs to be pulled away to get to the "root cause" of the person's inertia...It can be a complex and complicated process when it comes to understanding our deeper and hidden beliefs and motivations...or lack of motivation in certain situations.

adynaton – a figure of speech so hyperbolic that it describes an impossibility. The implication of such a phrase is that the circumstances in question (the adynaton, and the circumstances to which the adynaton are being applied) will never occur.

I can agree with this post. I do consider myself well-rounded at least and certain things interest me more, so I become more deeply interested and involved. Or try to at least.

Do you consider yourself a "deep" and intelligent person?

No and no.

How would you define the term "deep?"

Wise and insightful.

...Do people in your life view you as "smart?"

I hope so. From the amount they correct and contradict me, I would guess my kids don't.

What does it mean to be "smart?"

I would say it means you are able to grasp concepts that others find difficult.

Is intelligence based on the abilty to "store" and memorize facts and figures and data?

No, that's memory.

Or is about thinking in independent ways?

I would say that is creative. Creativity and intelligence are vastly different things. Example: When Donna Nobel became a (half) Time Lord, her human creativity and innate Time Lord intellect allowed her to come up with ideas that the Doctor admitted he would have never thought of.

Just some "food for thought" on a lazy Sunday morning...

I would prefer eggs and bacon, but thanks anyway.

Another trait and I find myself regretting I didn't put them all in one post,

But another trait to be deep or intelligent is knowing that you cant view this one sidedly and from one point of perspective to uderstand things in life and people you have to look at them from more than 1 side
I will give an example to understand the cold war you have to do research in an American history book and Russian history book and a Switz history book

so you have 2 biased accounts of history a neutral one only then after reading all 3 are you allowed to make an inform decision on what went on
