I'm not a big new country, however there are sub genres I really like. (I love old country though.. Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Lorette Lynn, etc.)

Listen to the soundtrack to "Oh Brother where art Thou" Some excellent songs: bluegrass to revival gospel, Blues to that song made more famous, I am a Man. I can just see George Cluney singing right now.

yes I have been listening to the union station & alison krauss for longer than many on this site have been alive, I think

I don't share your love for the hank williams/johnny cash genre- I mean it's OK but not my fav
