How many people here even know what Ska music is?
Hardly any of my friends have ever heard of it. I once brought it up in conversation and someone asked me 'is that the name of the new Kesha song?'
I swear, this generation's taste in music has gone to the dogs. Unfortunately for us skankers, we're the bones that get chewed up in the process.
PLEASE tell me at least someone knows what it is. I'd love to be able to legitimately talk about walking bass lines without someone bringing up a Basshunter reference.

I used to know what it was but forgot. Is it like punk techno or something?

It's a variation of calypso and jazz music typically with a walking bass line that originated in jamaica around 1960. Generally categorized into original, 2-tone, ska-punk, ska-pop and sometimes horror-ska.
You could look at music by the Toasters, Skafunderz, Selector, Skankin' Pickle, Buck-O-Nine and various bands of the like for good examples.
(But, yeah, ska is very far from techno. Although I'm sure there's probably someone who tried to mix the genres)

A good ska song puts me in a good mood everytime. I've worn out my Mighty Mighty Bosstones CD 3 times.
