One of the saddest points is that he was very young and a musical genius. Just imagine how much original music was lost when he died.

oh boy, that'll be the day anyone forgets buddy holly. his memory is one that will not fade away, like some peggy sue. everday there are words of love for him and maybe baby, if you think it over, you may hear a hearbeat, early in the morning, beating his words of love

Or how his music would have evolved as time moved on. One can not even imagine where that kind of genius might lead.
