I use my tarot deck primarily for myself, as a meditation tool. I, too, will get clear pictures and information when I read for others, but have to look in the book, for myself! I actually keep a record of all my readings for myself in a journal, and have developed a notation system, so I can go back and review things at a later date, if I wish. I write down my question and any thoughts or impressions, ahead of time, then proceed with the reading. I usually do a Celtic Cross, but sometimes a 3 card spread, if I'm short on time.
I choose to use the information as revelations about current events and issues, and meditate on what is being shown to me about the current state of things. I find it helps me clarify my own feelings and focus on next steps. It's proven to be a pretty good system. I try to go and get a reading from some one else every once in a while, just to get a perspective check!
Interesting.
I would like your opinion on a reading I did yesterday on the situation involving Syria using my five card reading that I call "The infallible five."

Hey, Jeannie! Sorry I missed getting back to this thread. I visited your link. What i did is this: i scrolled down so I could only see the cards.
My first impressions -
The Sun - represents Power, and in this case the conflict is over power
Queen of Pentacles (rev) - an imbalance in energy, specifically too little female energy
The Tower - in complete upheaval. Literally knocking down the old to make way for the new.
Two of Wands (rev) - blank. I got nothing, then on a second look: seeing the children makes me wonder what they are doing in such a dark story. They represent faith and hope for a fresh start, but since the card is reversed, the ability to have faith is in question.
Dark Magician - a sense of foreboding. I see somebody hiding behind a cape or costume, or in the shadows, which makes me think one particular person or force leading the way; Manipulation behind the scenes.
