Love driftwood and I'm currently incorporating it to my home. Saw this one recently and was actually going to do something similar, but am still looking for the right driftwood. The person who did this beat me to it. Beautiful, IMHO.

I think how you decorate your home is also an art in itself. :)

Oh Red!! I saw this a year or two ago and had the same reaction! I may be wrong, but I don't think it's drift wood, I think someone has made that. I'd love to know how, because I'd love to make something like that too! Oooone daaaay

I really need to get organized (p'ha!!) and get my stuff up somewhere. Here's the only thing I've put on youtube.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWxgq4cFRuQ

Digital stuff IS art. It accesses a different part of the brain than conventional art does though.

Oh I have a few things on facebook though...

Meet George.

And here's a sheep's skull I had fun painting.

I love how the divisions in the skull look like parts of a map. Skulls are natural works of art and it took me a long time to decide that I would paint them.

(why don't they show as links??)

I agree that anything you can create can be classified as art. Really though I guess I see true art as being an expression of your emotions. I have played drums for the past 20 years and am also a photoshop illustrator. The thing that relates my art is how I pour my feelings into what I do. If I am happy, angry, sad....it all shows in what I create. Once you start to do projects based on others specifications it seems that the emotion goes and you are left with something with a very basic meaning. Art is fundamentally self-expression of the deepest kind....Well, in my opinion ;)

This reminds me of a poster I created.
Mine has a shape and all of the words are related to the shape.
I loved creating it too, may have to do another one.
One of these days I am going to get it put on canvas.

There are numerous art forms, visual arts, performing arts, architectural art, literary art.... etc. I believe artists are greatly influenced by other art forms.
Personally, I can't draw a straight line and I can't play ANY instruments but I do consider myself an artist because I create and manufacture a household appliance that is truly... Forever! I create it for others to enjoy and use.... and also to earn a living.

I absolutely love and admire all other art forms. No matter the beauty of it, I'll love it just because someone put the energy and effort in completing it.

Do you agree that anyone who creates things for others is an artist? and what DO YOU create?

I believe that anyone that creates is an artist.
It doesn't necessarily have to be done for someone else for it to be art.
As an artist I find it difficult at times to create something specifically for someone else.
I have to feel it to be able to do it.
If they admire it and mention how they would like something like it I find I usually give them that piece.
I record it before hand so I have a record for myself though.

As for what I create the list is terribly long actually.
I write poetry on occasion (I love words and playing with them), paint, draw, crochet, make quilts, build things, use clay and am up to trying almost any medium to create what I see in my head.
I have used non traditional items in my designs such as hay, sand, beans, broken glass, shavings string, wire, fiberglass....another long list.
I would love to create welded metal sculptures at some point.

This is a mixed media design I created on a 5' fiberglass elk.
Paint, broken glass, fiberglass and an adhesive were all used here.

HA you hit an art/philosophical topic. What makes a person an artist is greatly debated between people. Some people believe an artist is someone who makes profit from their work. Somepeople think simply creating something makes them an artist and so on. What matters is what you think of yourself because everyone will think differently of you.

Thank you ((((Johnn)))) flowerforyou

I had the best time doing this Elk.
I donated my time and talent for Child & Parent Services.
All proceeds went to help abused families.
A worthy cause indeed and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

I like painting and the Masters like Da Vinci.
I also love Van Gogh, even though he paints like a 5 year old. It was what it meant to him that I like.

What I can't stand is abstract painting and all the crap that gets spoken about it.
Utter tosh if you ask me.

That Elk actually sold at auction for $3,500.00.
Not quite as much as some of the others but it was a fair donation for the cause.
By the time they got around to mine most had spent their share.
I believe one of the first to sell went for $30,000.00.
A night out, with a free 5 star meal that is etched in my memories forever.

As for your work of art...
I do not mean to laugh...
Really I don't...but...
I actually did Laugh Out Loud

It is BEAUTIFUL Johnn bigsmile

I have always believed comes in many forms to different people mine is crafting w/thread and material and yes I get ideas from different other pieces of art. some come to me in dreams. which is one I am working out on paper first but my drawing is crud. a waterfall and motorcycle. but I believe everyone deserves to show their work.
