Oasis and The Stone Roses, are two of the best modern day bands, but The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, are hard to beat though and Pink Floyd are class also! drinker

Being old, I have seen it all. There is no band that compares to Led Zepplin for oh so many reasons... mostly raw talent and imagination.

Some of the best modern musicians got together to pay tribute to Led Zepplin at the Kennedy Center. The band was honored by the likes of the Obamas and many others.

One point stood out. Even the best modern musicians could not play Zepplin's music as well as the original ... with the possible exception of Ann and Nancy Wilson doing Stairway to Heaven as a finale. Of course they had a full orchestra and choir for help!

Here is a excerpt of the show ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ta0gDfGb9u0

I always say that XTC are one of the most underrated bands ever, very studio reliant I grant you but brill all the same. They couldn't do live cos Andy Partridge suffered with stage fright.I would put the Kinks up with the stones and the Beatles,I know they are not to everyone's taste but Queen with Freddie will always be my no 1. I would say my favourite band of now are Slipknot closely followed by Mastodon, Korn and Slayer

I realize I said KISS earlier, and they will always be my favorite, but musically, they are good but not brilliant, however, I can make a legitimate argument in favor of Cheap Trick.

Nah just a over hyped boy band of their time. Must admit Ringo's good on Thomas the Tank engine though.

I'm not a Beatles fan, but have you ever really listened to George play the guitar and Ringo play the drums? And their harmonies were really good. At a time when "guitar bands are on their way out" these mop headed boys from Liverpool decided otherwise and influenced almost every band that started up in the 70's-90's, and even beyond.

We have this cool Internet thing. You can find pretty much any song that's ever been written. Google is a good place to start. Charlie Daniels had many classics.

Very droll, more to do in life than surf for Charlie Daniels "classics". I know all about Google thank you very much, apparently its very good for grown up stuff!

Course I have listened to the Beatles, sooner listen to the stones though! Ps went to Liverpool a few weeks ago, they haven't let go off the Beatles "phenomenon" yet either!

I agree that other bands of the time were better, but they can't be dismissed so casually. Personally, I think the Who was the best British band ever.
