The Abscence. Based out of Tampa (birthplace of death metal). They are pretty badass. Check em out.

Also Dark Tranquilty (already mentioned). Highly recommended. Very similar to Insomnium.

Dimmu Borgir are not melodic death metal. They are not even death metal.

Not sure if it qualifies....

Forbidden's..."Through eyes of glass"

When I think "melodic death metal"...I think of slow tunes. I keep my mp3 and Fire loaded with all sorts of genres for work. All the songs I got are either faced paced for work or catchy as hell.

"Through eyes of glass" is the slowest metal song I got.

Actually...now that I think of it....

It ain't "DEATH!!!!" metals but, for sheer bad@$$ed metal guitar talent...check out Steve Vai....or Ingwie Malmsteen....late 80's early 90's. Those boys could hang with the best of em.

This song doesn't really fit into the death metal scene IMHO, but it is still an amazing song. I personally like the flow of Victory Song by Ensiferum.
