Depends on the kind of artist though, some can be very narrow-minded others quite open-minded.

I would believe that most artists' have many moments that they struggle to be creative, which could be caused by themselves forcing the issue. Art regardless of the medium NEEDs to flow freely.

Artists' are not closed minded in any way, if anything they probably show more passion in finer things in life. They probably see beauty in places that many don't.

I agree Spicey, I think artists tend to be much more passionate about things in general. As far as writers block or artists block, I was reading a great book called, "The War of Art" , by Steven Pressfield. It was amazing, and it's all about releasing your artistic flow and honing your craft. I recommend it to any artists. I loved it.

Some artists limit their focus to a single medium intentionally. It doesn't imply that they are incapable of using other media, it may be as simple as the artist found a way of expressing ideas and concepts in a single medium in order to find an unique voice.

I can play a lot of instruments in a range of styles, but I've found my voice on a resonator guitar. It doesn't mean I can't use anything else, it means that I prefer this medium and voice.

I don't think that preferring to use one medium over another means that person is close minded at all. It just means that's what they prefer.

I make a concerted effort not to be close-minded, in life as well as in art. I've found, for the most part, that it's opened me up to people and movements and ideas that I've grown to really appreciate and, in some case, adopt :)
