I got my first one when I was 42. It is my dogs head, from a photograph, on my shoulder so I can cover it up when I need to.
I wouldn't get anymore, because its just not me, but I do like and appreciate them.

Butterfly in the small of my back...I drew the kanji letter Butterfly and put tribal wing on it! I love it!
If you want to I say go for it. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. I have two that have special meaning to me , but also they are where they can be covered for work.
I have two that both have meaning to me. Just make sure before you get one that you'll want it forever than you go for it! As long as you like it that's what counts. Be sure to check out your artists previous work before you go. And don't trust what other people say about people they know/have seen, I have seen that go horribly wrong.

I have several small inks that mean a lot to me. The one I like most is a nickname "hutty" and it is on my knob everyone who sees it says wow that must have hurt. I am tempted to get a maple leaf on it as well.

Just make sure if you are going to get something it is something that means something to you. Also check out different tattoo artists and their style and their work before you decide where to go. The choice is up to you but the result is permanent. All of mine have a lot of meaning to me so I'm happy with them.
Tattoo is like marriage u most not depend on peoples opinon to make ur choice, but before getting a tattoo take a DEEP thought if its wat u really want 2 do, cus it permanent even thou we have laser remover to alternat, still contemplate b4 u take a ride. I've got 11 tattoos upon my body.
