Since you did the reading I will guess you didn't know anything about him. Karl Panzram was a killer I think in the early 1900's. He killed both men and women and hated everyone including himself. He would go so far as to rape his male victims. Not because of gay tendencies. But as a way of dominating his victims. As far as I know he had few people he respected one of whom gave him a pencil and paper that he wrote his story on and was eventually published.
He is noted to have said that any person who acted on his behalf to get him a lesser sentence or to set him free would be killed by him in a brutal fashion. One of my favorite things was at his execution he supposedly said something to the effect of "Come on, I could have killed a dozen people in the time it took you to do this." Kind of reminds me of the character Marv from Sin City.
That was his good half speaking.
