PiL wasn't in The Clash, but... well I'm not sure you could call it punk either, but it was English.

PiL was Jonny Rotten selling his soul to cash in on what he did in the Sex Pistols. As for the Clash, I would class them more as New Wave rather than Punk. The golden era for British Punk was 76-79 and the defining bad had to be the Sex Pistols in my opinion.

the clash formed after seeing the pistols play as did alot of british punk bands like the buzzcocks and joy division but the origonal pioneers of punk were over in the states the ramones without them punk may never of happened

I was being sarcastic with the two stooges albums. The pistols covered no fun at their last show. At the time that was a ten year old song.
