As you may know, our chat client has not been reliable for a while. After much consideration, we have concluded that the right decision is to disable chat across the site. We don't want you to think that you are being ignored when the person that you are trying to IM might not've received your message.

So, for now, Mingle2 will not have an IM/chat program. We are considering our options for the future, though, which include building our own IM/chat client.

Thank you for your understanding and for using the site.

edit:
As of March 23, we have disabled the IM/chat program.

Do you have any idea why I am constantly loosing message and why some people just appear as a friend on my list..?. This has been happening quite frequently the last 3 weeks.

Same issue. I get a notice that someone has given me a message, but when I look in my inbox it doesn't show there, I've had entire conversations with people without having them appear in my mailbox just by making a message to them and following that message to that page, but, it's getting very tiresome, please fix your system it's BROKEN. Thanks.

Hello Charles,

As a user experience designer if a feature is disabled it should not be present or there should be a way for user to know that it is disabled via hovering, warning labels, etc.

A quick fix would either be to remove the code that shows the button to IM or make the mouse pointer be not-allowed instead of pointer.

This will clear up some confusion and probably stop users searching for an answer while your team hammers out the IM functionality.

Hopefully you take my suggestion into consideration, thanks =)
