Good and evil is fought every day between your left and right ear. On things if you should do them or not do them. Where ever the morals/compass comes from... there's always that little voice in the back of your mind saying if it's right or wrong.

These are Jesus' words... (Matthew 26: 41)

These are the Apostle Paul's words... (Romans 7: 15-20) + (Romans 8: 6-8)

To be sure... One's greatest enemy is One's own Self.

The Mind or the Brain merely contains a collective of what One perceives as logical or illogical.

In One's Mind, One can logically rationalize what is 'most-correct', but other factors inside the rest of the Body may appeal to hold-sway on what One prefers to actually do.

Here's a simple example... Your alarm clock starts to ring !
Your Mind tells You that You've got to wake-up and go to work...
But, Your Body tells You it would prefer to keep sleeping.

Logic tells You that You'll lose Your job if You don't get-up and go to work, so eventually You pull Yourself up-and-out of bed.

Self-Control is a term of relative importance.

What is important to Some mite not be important to All.

The 'Third Variable' in all this is often called the Heart, although the literal physical organ isn't what's implied.

No, the Heart is merely the seat or 'general vicinity' of the still-yet more important Spirit.

So, if One guards what goes into the Body and the Mind then the Heart, along with the Spirit that resides, is better for it.

Now, it's not a perfect World, so Your best efforts are fated to be hampered. This is where remorse and prayer and renewed resolve to better One's Self are needed.

Remember, all 'valid prayer' can only be directed to the One Almighty God who is often forgiving and most merciful.
This, with recognition of the principal Patriarchs through-whom we receive that hope and instruction, Moses, Jesus, and Mohammad, are to mention a few.

The battle between Good and Evil is fought in our minds and registered in our Souls.

If we do wrong through the mind then the judgment thereof is registered in our soul and since we can't pay all our debts in one life, our soul lives out the judgment of our current life in the next.

Hence we have the opportunity and are on a journey to become better people.
