As I see it, law-abiding black residents of Baltimore should exercise their 2nd-Amendment right by purchasing firearms & ammunition for those firearms and by using them to defend themselves, their families and their properties.

'Police their own?' Isn't that city divided enough? Is it your contention that the disruptive elements are somehow above or beyond civil law as it stands now? Must we validate their dissension, too?

The very reason we are having this discussion in the U.S. is because some folks are taking every opportunity to voice their 'differences.'

What Baltimore - and by extension, the rest of the country - needs is more Moms like the one who smacked the hell out of her kid and did everything but drag him home by his ear when she found him participating in the early incidents that lit these streets up.

I've seen it work. When I lived in Baltimore, we had effective and active Neighborhood Watch programs...and safe neighborhoods.

first. lets be clear that I said nothing about one person being a 'savior',, to me all humans are too fallible to be seen as such


second, I didnt mention farrakhan , I said the nation of islam of which he is the head, but obviously wouldnt be performing security, which was the brunt of my suggestion

third, I didnt imply anyone is above anyone, but the OP specifically alluded to what 'blacks' were doing/should do, that is why I am also responding as it pertains to black people,,,

fourth, I thought one of the great things about america was that people should be free to voice their differences?

What the nation of islam provides in terms of security is every bit as effective as what that mom provided, and more of it,, even from an organized security group like the NOI, would definitely serve the 'blacks' well,, I agree

Well thanks to the residents of Baltimore City and a few other places within Maryland that voted for O'Malley and his merry band of gun grabbers it is very difficult to obtain firearms in Maryland now.

Oh yes... You can buy a handgun.. But it may take a few months for you to be able to have it.

the op SPECIFICALLY pointed out blacks,, blacks do not need to 'get over themselves',, there are serious concerns they have and they should be addressed like anyone elses instead of blamed for having them

now, if the POLICE are not going to police because of simple expectations not to kill unarmed citizens, and if they arent trained properly in interacting with those they police, some security source that IS TRAINED to deal inside of that environment may be a great alternative until things get to where they need to be and Police go back to doing their jobs in a way that protects and doesnt endanger citizens,, even 'suspects' and non violent 'criminals'

the NOI has a long history inside of black communities, understanding how to interact with residents inside of black communities, and a long history of providing security services

so why shouldn't they be employed to do the job if police are refusing to?

The question remains: Divisiveness and dissent are the best solutions one can recommend? This is 'us vs. them?' To hell with the rule of law, let's hire vigilantes '...until nature takes its course?' What precedent does that set?

And who pays for the NOI 'security forces?' There WILL be a price to pay. farrakhan has never shown himself to be altruistic in my experience. If the solution is more minority representation on the police force, why aren't more of the community members, especially those unemployed that you mention, becoming cops?

Airing one's differences becomes something else when businesses that are the sole hope of a community are run out or destroyed by the lawless airing them. Discussing differences is one thing, shooting your neighbor, burning their property and terrorizing the neighborhood is not a reasonable - or effective, at any level - option.

What suggesting 'NOI security' amounts to is pseudo-secession. In essence, 'We don't trust you; we'll do it ourselves.' That sort of negotiation will only be met with retaliation, and more of Baltimore will burn.

I don't disagree with the premise, but how are they going to go about providing security in a city that size?

Not to mention that they won't be carrying any type of weapon.. Are they going to take a bullet for someone?

so when divisiveness is already present, what is the solution?

take care of YOUR house, thats the solution

because all those who would attack your house can only do it if it is weak at its foundation

build the foundation of YOUR home, reinforce it,, and then you can concern yourself with 'uniting' with others

others dont want to unite with YOU when you yourselves are seem as weaker, more violent, more criminal,,,,etc,,

thats where the divisiveness ALREADY IS,, so my solution is dealing with the problem at its root ,,,thats not creating divisiveness, its addressing some of the motivation and excuses that have been created to allow the divisivenss to continue and be perpetuated by others,,,

I have said nothing about hiring vigilantes, I spoke of hiring those who probably have more knowledge of how to interact with the citizens they are serving

who pays? I would be happy if they got rid of every sorry cop who wont do their job and give that pay to the NOI security until they can hire citizens interested in doing the job and serving the citizens in the community they work in

I don't even care about minority representation, I care about cops who care about the community they police and ALL of its citizens, not just the ones who treat them like God and as if they are without flaw or error,,,

Its not all of Baltimore, but it is more than one area and those areas are very large.

Policemen are highly trained. Being an officer first requires individual fitness testing both physical and psychological. Not everyone is cut out for it, and even once a fitness or suitabliity test is passed, one must still complete a lot of training. No one can just step up and be an officer just because they belong to some group (that's why I said I think the same thing when the HA try to be policemen. I do not just mean the Panthers I mean any group should get over thinking they just automatically be police).

The Black Panthers (also rooted in Elijah Muhammad) have a history that is mixed regarding being law abiding, but no matter, they definitely can have a positive impact by using their influence to end rioting and violence and continue their social mission. Doesn't mean they can be the police. Voter intimidation from the last election brings into question your suggestion also, in my book.

All communities with racial inequality in the police force would benefit by having a diversified trained and qualified team and hiring locally... a team that has graduated from the academy....sorry I was not ignoring you, I had to do some housework
