Ah, I think that's a cop out that Americans like to use.

"That will never work here, it only works in small countries" Lets them not face the issues. Of course transparency will work anywhere; it is more about attitude than logistics.

To me the American government is like the 0ld Catholic Church telling it's parishioners that everything had to be in Latin because it was the language of the church. In reality, they just wanted to keep the power in the hands of the clergy. That is just like saying we can’t be transparent, it will never work here, but really we have your best interests at heart.

Let us consider: For the past 250 years (ish), the United States has been divided up primarily between Democrats and Republicans. Both sides have accomplished great things, and both sides have been harangued for causing great problems. Largely, what one side does, the other side attempts to counter or "correct" based on political, economic, or even religious reasons.
The next election, everything turns out exactly the way it did in the previous election, though the names may have switched. ("Democrats blame Republicans for economic state!" becomes "Republicans blame Democrats for economic state!", etc.)

Try something new. See if it makes a difference.

Both parties have their fair share of lies. That's why their politicians. To say who lies better is pure idiocy. Both are guilty in this regard. Who lies better is irrelevant when both do it all to well.
