Target TGT -0.70% will start using gender-neutral signage in store aisles that carry kids’ toys, bedding, and books, seeking to quell a social media firestorm ignited this summer when a woman expressed displeasure on Twitter at a sign in one of its stores that referenced “building sets” and “girls’ building sets.”

In the coming months, the discount retailer will add signs in its kids’ bedding area that no longer feature suggestions by gender but will instead address kids as a group. Target will also remove references to gender, including the use of pink, blue, yellow, or green paper on the back walls of its shelves of its kids’ sections, the company said in a blog post on Friday.

“As guests have pointed out, in some departments like toys, home or entertainment, suggesting products by gender is unnecessary,” Target said. “We heard you, and we agree. Right now, our teams are working across the store to identify areas where we can phase out gender-based signage to help strike a better balance.”

Two months ago, Abi Bechtel, a mother in Ohio, criticized Target’s gender designations in its toy aisle and posted a photo on Twitter. The post led to an outcry, with the admonition, “Don’t do this, Target.”

Gender labels will remain in the kids’ clothing section because of sizing and fit differences.

Target has repeatedly said in the year since Brian Cornell became CEO that kids and baby products were one of its priorities.

I think it is weird & dangerous & dictating to parents & children.
If small kids want to play with a toy, so what!? If parents want to raise THEIR kids, male or female or with male or female roles, so what?

I don't think parents need direction from a corporation or children need lessons on how they should be or think or live or beleive in.... from ANYONE other than their parents.

I agree, parents don't need that, that's just wrong.

What does everyone think?

First of all, these terms....gender fluid?

fluid: capable of flowing freely like water. —used to
describe something that can change easily or
that changes often.

Did they invent screw on penises and vaginas?

Terms like "gender fluid" are used because people are offended to be told they have a mental illness.

Secondly, I have some advice for these companies that come under atrack by these SJW idiots on social media....Ignore them, deny them the attention they crave. In a few days, theyll move on to a new made up cause that "offends" them.

I was thinking, the same thing. One woman said she was offended by a sign ? Well, write a letter. Don't shop there. Even boycott it.
For a major corporation to give in to this is insanity. I don't believe the majority is offended or even inconvenienced.

I think the signs & tags on clothes is convenient. And speeds up shopping...laugh Myself, I just want to get in & get out.

it will be a bigoted term to refer to humans as male or female, because we are all 'just' human and labels are 'bad'

What does everyone think?

I think everyone should be numbered at birth.

I think people should all live in public housing, and fed in public kitchens, clothed in disposable gray coveralls, and have their hair shorn at all times to prevent lice and ticks and disease.

I think kids should be given toys that teach them a trade; like welding, or brick laying, carpentry, or auto maintenance.

I think everyone should then be given an infrastructure job or join the military from the ages of 12-20.

Only then can they apply to the private sector or go to college, to specialize in whatever is most desired by the corporate overlords.
And then taxed at 100%.
The government is handling food, shelter, and clothing, and they get to live with their community, so what else do they need? Nothing!

I think all my little ants should then build me a majestic palace with a big pool and a salad bar!

Human beings are owned by the state and need to contribute to society!....and me.
Enough of this free will, individuality, personal choice, and self determination nonsense. That just leads to terrorist acts against the state. Their owners!

We need to eradicate child hunger, children dying in war, children contracting disease, a child's lack of access the health care.
It's for the children!
Individuality creates problems of self and self identity.
If they are all the same, then no one is ostracized!
If no one is ostracized, then everyone belongs, is happy, and loves each other.

Could Target be any more cowardly?

One stupid phucking woman posts a video and a giant corporation bends over and let's her jam a giant stick up their A@@.

What a bunch of pussified cowards.

spock The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.

see now I grew up in the seventies..in the "free to be you and me" generation..where little Tommy can have a doll or Little Becky can play with trucks..I understood then that the message as a kid or parent was that we did not always have to keep our kids in these gender roles to such an extent that the girls always had to wear little dresses and a boy was never allowed to cry.
Since that time we have seen girls getting into sports more and even joining the boy's teams. We have seen women joining the military and doing more than just answering phones and taking messages. We have seen more up and coming young ladies going into fields that were once considered male dominant professions. We have seen families where Dad is the one doing the household chores and taking the kids to little league because his job has the flexibility to do so. Men (as we found out) do indeed have emotions and are capable of nurturing and childcare. Men can be teachers of young children, nurses, counselors..fields that were female dominant at one time.

but ya see even though I have no issues with our little girls wearing blue jeans and climbing trees and playing with tonka trucks and our little boys learning how to cook and mend the hole in the knee of their blue jeans ..I have a real issue as a parent with this gender neutral thing when it is taken to the extreme..what is next?

are we going to take the boy and girl labels off public restrooms?
