It is now legal for law enforcement in North Dakota to fly drones armed with everything from Tasers to tear gas thanks to a last-minute push by a pro-police lobbyist.

With all the concern over themilitarization of police in the past year, no one noticed that the state became the first in the union to allow police to equip drones with “less than lethal” weapons. House Bill 1328 wasn’t drafted that way, but then a lobbyist representing law enforcement—tight with a booming drone industry—got his hands on it.

The bill’s stated intent was to require police to obtain a search warrant from a judge in order to use a drone to search for criminal evidence. In fact, the original draft of Representative Rick Becker’s bill would have banned all weapons on police drones.

I have seen a short debate about weaponized drones used in the military about a year ago.

They were arguing about the use of an arbitrary program that will let the drone itself determine whether use of deadly force is warranted in the battlefield or not. It was suppose to save military personnel from being in the line of fire and defend themselves from a safe distance, at the same time remove "human error" from the decision-making process.

I didnt think that it would translate to civilian life so quickly...

They need this in North Dakota?

I read U.S. Today they have one page for breaking or important news from each state. For North Dakota 9 times out of 10 they article says something to the effect of"

Nothing really happened there yesterday, check back later in the week.

I seen a strategy here... So I did some checking.....
It looks to me as if the questions were, " Which state will complain the least, so we can do this? " & "which state will not pull the race card out of it's back pocket, so we can do this?"
