Why do private schools think they own the public road?

On my way home from food store (went by myself for 1st time in a year - yeah!) there is a woman (not police officer) stopping traffic for people to cross the road (they were adults). So, of course I stop. But now they are chit chatting in the middle of the road. So I wait. They finally cross.

Then this woman looks at me and puts her hand up to say I still can not go as there were others in the distance coming to cross.

I looked at her & shook my head side to side then pressed the gas. She got out of my lane. She yelled at me and I said 'public road, f*** off'. Then proceeded merrily on my way.
