It's partially over land. It can strengthen when it gets back over open water.

I have lived on the coast long enough to know that when they are predicting a storm to make landfall here and its 4 days away it isn't happening.

Walmart near Ocean City was out of water 2 days ago.... haha...

Have the fema cards been issued yet?

Like the Katrina refugees, hurricane survivors are gonna need new tattoos, and money for strippers.

Here are a couple of links I use for my own weather stuff. I do occasionally listen to "expert" weather reports too, but I always start from these RADAR and satellite based views, to decide for myself whether the mass-media-profit-driven frenzies are worth paying attention to or not.

http://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/east/natl/flash-vis.html

http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/district-of-columbia/weather-radar?play=1

I could see myself that Joachim wasn't moving north at any rate at all, all last week. So every time some reporter claimed I'd need to duck in cover the next day, I knew they were just drinking the wrong hooch on the job.

You can start from mine, and use links to home and such to find a version that shows you your own area.
