well I thought that's what Halloween was for ... coming up with some of the coolest ideas to either scare or make them laugh or being cute ... sure it can up set the little ones but just pass it by ... if you don't like it ... and tell them its not real and there is nothing to be afraid of ... and will be taken all down at the end of the mnth anyway ... think of it as art ... may not be your taste but they may have done a good job and feel it served its purpose ... to either disgust people or have some one say cool decorations ...

I think it is going to far in a family neighborhood. Even the 9 yr girl thought the bodies were real.
Kids could be afraid to go out or have nightmares or parents may have to explain 'homicide' too soon for kids to deal with it.
I think if parents decide what TV shows & movies kids watch & don't watch (hopefully they screen it , for sex, violence.... & politics )

Then they should be able to live in
" quiet enjoyment " in their own neighborhood & at least decide as a whole what is inappropriate.

I could understand as a whole inappropriate if they lived in a condo setting ... but your own house and yard ... no ... that's taking freedom away from someone ... and they could have their kids watch how they make these kinds of things on tv and someone wins for the coolest art ... kids can not live in a bubble forever ... I guess i say that becouse I was a older parent ...

This kind of thing is often a tough call. Yeah, we all want freedom of expression, but we also don't want other people's expression intruding on us. Figuring out where to draw the lines, is tricky.

This one reminds me of a case a year or so ago, where someone hanged themselves in their front yard the week before Halloween, and so the body was dangling for a couple of days before anyone realized it was real.

And I read about a similar case in Ohio this morning.

If I were the one with yard decoration in this article, I'd be cordially inviting the offended, to endeavor an aeronautic conjugation with a tumbling pastry.

That's pretty much civilization.

Although part of the sited story doesn't make sense.
"Scary decorator Vicki Barrett, of Parma, Ohio, said that she removed the adornments from her home after receiving some unwanted visitors during the night.

"I came down one night a little bit after midnight and happened to see stuff flashing in my front yard and looked out my window," she told Fox8, "and our front yard was full of people that we didn't know."

At the beginning of the article it said she removed the decorations because the neighbors complained.
But then she says she removed the decorations because a bunch of strangers were in her yard attracted by the decorations.


That always works for children.
"Daddy daddy! There's a monster under my bed and it's going to eat me!"
"Just pass it by, kid. It's not real and there is nothing to be afraid of."
"Okay. Thanks dad. That's quality parenting. You telling me it's not real and nothing there to be afraid of has completely put to rest any unreasonable fears and now I can watch monster movies, bloody gore, violent simulated rape scenes, and they will have no effect on my developing psyche whatsoever. You're a great parent."

That's realistic.


Not really.
It's called caring what your family, friends, neighbors, and community think rather than running around basically yelling "I don't care what people think! I'm doing it for myself, to express myself, to make myself feel good! Therefore I am going to make sure I act out in public, call attention to myself, to make sure people think about me! You can't judge me! But I'm going to make sure to force my way into your consciousness and manipulate emotions so you'll make a judgment!"


I wonder if on Valentines Day people should start decorating their front yard with mannequins having orgies.

I am all for free speech, but there simply has to be a line to not cross. I truly don't know "who" should make the decision as to what line shouldn't be crossed, but I would think it would be (like also was said in earlier post) neighbors, family, community.

That happened again just recently, only it was a murder victim. Passersby thought it was a Halloween decoration. I only saw the headline, didn't read the article, so I don't know where it took place.

Something like that could bend the needle on neighbors' weird-s***-o-meters.

I am glad that you noticed the discrepancies in the homeowners statements.
It seems she changed her tune once the tables were turned & her rights seemed violated & she may have been scared by people coming in her yard at night.
