NEWNAN, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the death of a man after a confrontation with Coweta County sheriff's deputies.
GBI officials say authorities were responding to a 911 call Friday about 32-year-old Chase Alan Sherman, who appeared to be in psychological distress after using a drug believed to be synthetic marijuana.
Officials say Sherman struggled with authorities and a deputy used a stun gun to try subduing him. Authorities say Sherman's father and girlfriend tried restraining him until deputies arrived.
Authorities say Sherman continued resisting and went into medical distress after emergency responders arrived. Deputies and medics began performing CPR. Sherman was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead.
Officials say an autopsy will be performed at the GBI Medical Examiner's Office in Decatur.
