WASHINGTON (AP) - The Homeland Security Department is planning nationwide raids aimed at deporting adults and children who have already been ordered removed by an immigration judge.

The Washington Post reported in Thursday's editions that the operation from Immigration and Customs Enforcement would begin as soon as next month and would likely affect hundreds of immigrants who fled violence in Central America since the start of 2014.

ICE spokeswoman Gillian Christensen would not comment on the details of the Post report. In a statement Thursday, Christensen said that as part of civil enforcement priorities announced by DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson in November 2014, the agency will focus on individuals "who pose a threat to national security, public safety and border security." That group includes people who have been caught trying to enter the U.S. illegally and those who have been ordered removed from the country since January 2014.

"As Secretary Johnson has consistently said, our border is not open to illegal immigration, and if individuals come here illegally, do not qualify for asylum or other relief, and have final orders of removal, they will be sent back consistent with our laws and our values," she said.

The Obama administration disclosed this week that in the 2015 budget year, the U.S. deported the fewest immigrants since 2006. ICE said that of the 235,413 people removed or returned during that time period, 98 percent met one or more of ICE's enforcement priorities.

I am NOT likeing this... Got a bad feeling.

None of it. Blaming the government for states nor being set up for all these children.
Two states saying they will take them but.. more funding. $
Mother's with work visa's but their children can't be with them.
The children can't be with at least one blood relative.
* Yet..they are illegal & (the adults) made their choices *

What is embarrassing is we didn't respect & uphold our own immigration laws in the first place. And will those responsible be held accountable? NO OF COURSE NOT.
And all these people having been in a sort of limbo or holding pattern for 2+ years.

The biggest problem with the Immigration issue for the last decade or so in particular, has been that it has been treated entirely as a POLITICAL FOOTBALL GAME issue,and not as a problem to actually be addressed. Lots of occasions where the party OUT of power blocks any attempts by the party IN power to take action, and most of the proposals haven't so much been designed to resolve anything, as to appeal to one block of voters or another.

Until the major parties BOTH take the issue seriously, I don't anticipate progress.

This is what made Trump so unusual as a Republican candidate: he's the first one who said something more than "this is an issue requiring firm leadership" followed by total inaction.

On this topic, I think since they want to deport all Illegals, then start at the beginning.
The first illegals was Columbus ,then the Pilgrims, then everyone hat followed them.

Yes, it's always a good idea to warn the illegals

Here in the DC area, we have immigrants of every kind you can imagine. Because it's the capitol city, and because we have lots of transportation systems.

So what's your point?

Well, first of all, it doesn't help them to know that raids are planned. It's like knowing that the IRS plans to go after everyone they think cheated on taxes. Yeah, if you cheated, it's a bummer to here, but it doesn't tell you that THEY know that YOU are someone to come get.

But on the other hand, I do think that since this is a big pre-election year, that announcing this ahead of time, has more of domestic politics to it, than anything else.

The new surge of illegal immigrant youths has forced the federal government to look at an emergency plan to house them at six military bases at at least two federal worker centers, according to the administration.

The Pentagon is beginning "site assessments" at bases as far north as North Dakota and Massachusetts.

"The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) at HHS is expanding its capacity to provide shelter for the current influx of unaccompanied children at the U.S. Southern Border. This temporary increased shelter capacity is a prudent step needed to ensure ORR meets its statutory responsibility to provide shelter for the unaccompanied children referred to its care and to assist CBP in ensuring that the US Border Patrol continues its vital national security mission to prevent illegal migration and trafficking, and to protect the borders of the United States," said a Pentagon memo to Rep. Martha Roby, Alabama Republican.

She led a previous fight to block the sheltering of the youths at Maxwell-Gunter Air Force Base near Montgomery, Ala.

According to the Pentagon email she forwarded, the other bases are:

-- Tyndall Air Force Base, FL (nearest city: Panama City, FL)

-- Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND (nearest cities: Emerado, ND and Grand Forks, ND)

-- Naval Support Activity Philadelphia, PA (nearest city: Philadelphia, PA)

-- Hanscom Air Force Base, MA (nearest city: Bedford, MA)

-- Travis Air Force Base, CA (nearest city: Fairfield, CA)

Another 1,600 beds are being set aside at the Homestead Job Corps, in Florida, and Denver Federal Campus, in Lakewood.

The latest surge of minors reached 5,600 caught at the southern border in November, more than double the number apprehended last year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

Roby said that she is girding for another fight. (Her letter is below.)

"A military base is no place to house illegal immigrant children. Bases like Maxwell are engaged in real military activities - training, education, cyber warfare - many times in classified settings that are very sensitive. Their mission does not need to be distracted by housing, feeding and securing hundreds of detainees.

"Housing illegal immigrant children at an active military base like Maxwell-Gunter is a terrible idea. We shut it down the first time and we are working every angle to shut it down again," she said.
