On Nov. 2nd, 1788, James Madison, Father of the Constitution, warned against calling a Constitutional Convention.

“If a General Convention were to take place for the avowed and sole purpose of revising the Constitution, it would naturally consider itself as having a greater latitude than the Congress appointed to administer and support as well as to amend the system... an election into it would be courted by the most violent partisans on both sides... [It] would no doubt contain individuals of insidious views, who under the mask of seeking alterations popular in some parts but inadmissible in other parts of the Union might have a dangerous opportunity of sapping the very foundations of the fabric.”

Madison was concerned that America’s freedom would be destroyed if the men of his time were able to rewrite the Constitution.

Imagine if the lawyer "scrubbers" of our Constitution, from either side these days, were to get the opportunity to "change" or alter in any way the document that protects the rights of the people.

Just look at th rights they have robbed us of, the infringements and abuses to our liberty, even with it in place, under our representatives in this govt..... even the SCOTUS has turned its back on the people!

I think that we better just stick to voting but do away with the Electoral College....and the Irs too.

All I can say is I don't trust any govt or its officials around my Constitution given their track record on peoples rights!

Think about it! They swear an oath to defend and obey it....

Goldman Sachs just paid $4.5Billion in fines for their actions leading to the crash of 2008 from the sale of their toxic derivatives causing people to lose their homes, savings and jobs!

Did you get your part of the settlement?

Thomas may have been concerned in 1788 and there are always concerns when we step out of the box of the status quo or make changes

but progress comes with change,,,

and thank goodness the risks were taken, as the men in the 1700's were working with 'rights' that by and large only applied to white males,,,

Seems the way it was worded allowed for change..... which happened in later additions (14th amendment) to the Constitutional amendments, not changing the ones already there..... just an additional one or ten to allow both blacks and women to vote, hold office, etc.!

Govt has shown that given the ability they will remove the rights of the people in favor of the ruling class.

The peoples Congress can amend..... by vote.... a convention, even if by the people, will always be usurped by the power of the upper class!

More so today than ever with govt's (our corrupt officials and representatives) shyster attorneys and corporate/banker sponsors!

Just look at the abuses they have imposed even with the protections of the Constitution. Heaven forbid they usurp the power of a convention to rewrite it!

IMO state and city government is far more corrupt than federal government.
It's just not as nationally newsworthy or binding to people that dislike government.

Someone living in AZ generally doesn't give a crap about something like the city planner of Albuquerque's highest competency being an associates degree in electrical technology but happens to be the nephew of the mayor or governor, or that one of the state senators had 21 DWI's on their record with no jail or loss of license.

Say "ol doug douchey helping immigrants!" is not as universally recognized as "oblowme hates america!"


Government is only as good as the people running it.
Those are only as good as the people putting them in place.
People in power act according to how they were raised as kids.
It doesn't matter if it's federal or state.
Power corrupts.
