The Pope's pregnant receptionist has been found dead in her apartment on the outskirts of the city.

Miriam Wuolou, a 34-year-old of Eritrean origin, was seven-months pregnant when her body was discovered.

She had worked at Pope Francis' home and a priests' guesthouse called Santa Marta for years.

The Italian press reports she worked as a kind of gatekeeper for the Pontiff, as well as for the bishops and cardinals who stay there.

The Pope opted to live at the Santa Marta guesthouse after his appointment in 2013, rejecting the grand papal apartments because he found them too sumptuous and he feared isolation.

Ms Wuolou had a serious kind of diabetes which had led doctors to warn her pregnancy was at risk.

Police are investigating a case of neglect and have interviewed family members, her ex-husband from whom she was separated, and most recent boyfriend, thought to be a policeman in the Vatican, according to Rome-based newspaper il Messaggero.

The first external examination of the corpse showed no signs of violence.

Her brother found the body on Friday after he had not heard from her for several days. The autopsy has been carried out, and DNA tests are to be carried out on the foetus.

Pope Francis' Pregnant Secretary Found Dead, Vatican Calls for Investigation

Italian press noted that Wuolou suffered from a serious kind of diabetes, which doctors had warned could put her pregnancy at risk, but it is not yet known if that is related to her death. The secretary is believed to have missed several weeks of work due to her condition.

She was found dead at her apartment last Friday by her brother who came to see her.

The ANSA news agency reported that prosecutors have ordered an autopsy to be carried out on Wuolou's body, as there were no signs of physical violence discovered at her Rome apartment.

"A DNA test will also be carried out on the fetus. Wuolou's body was found by Carabinieri police at her flat in the Pisana area south of Rome after her brother raised the alarm. It allegedly presented no signs of violence," the report stated.

The Vatican will reportedly be following the case closely, but officials are not expected to be directly involved in the investigations. The Vatican News website is also yet to report on Wuolou's death.

Italian newspaper il Messaggero reported that police suspect it could have been a case of neglect, and have interviewed family members, her ex-husband from whom she was separated, and most recent boyfriend, who is believed to be a policeman who works at the Vatican.

Catholic Culture suggested that questions have been raised about her ex-husband, who did not live with her, and whether "their union was arranged simply to enable her to become a citizen."

DNA tests are also set to be carried out on the fetus, with investigators seeking to confirm the paternity of her unborn child.

The Clintons and the Vatican,
both have long histories of leaving corpses everywhere they go.

I guarantee it wasn't the Pope as the father. Two reasons one she was a woman and two she was over 10 years old.

I believe she was murdered.

A few things stand out:

1- Why was she in Rome?
She was 34. But how many years was she there.? Was her marriage a sham to keep her there?

2- " Some kind of dangerous diabetes ".. Assuming that is true. How could they know exactly what her health is? Or say it to the press even in defence of themselves?

3- " She hadn't worked for weeks". ..So a woman who has worked for the Vatican for years doesn't go to work for about 2 months & the Vatican does nothing?
A pregnant woman dies alone? By the second day they could of ordered a team of medical people over there.
* The Vatican Is Legally It's Own Country, they can do whatever they want & answer to no one *

3- The pregnancy. By a RC / Christian standard & legally her husband, if she was still married, is the father.
And a divorced woman could remarry but should not.
And since she did not live with (estranged) husband, who the hell is the father?

4- Was she really a secretary for years ? And all those priests, never sexually harassed or abused her? (No woman would believe that, not even a RomanCatholic one).

Basic information is missing. Without it, no one can get to the WHY?
