As for causing the Republican party problems, it's just my opinion based on long observation, but I think they've been setting themselves up for this for a long time, by purposely pretending to support causes they don't give a crap about.

That's what Trumps' success is all about: going straight at what the GOP has been pretending to want to address for decades, and then repeatedly done NOTHING about it once in office.
