WASHINGTON (AP) - A senior adviser to Ted Cruz says he has ended his campaign for president, putting Donald Trump on a glide path to claim the Republican Party's nomination.

The conservative firebrand and Texas senator had tried to cast himself as the only viable alternative to the billionaire businessman, but announced his decision to drop out of the race after losing to Trump in Tuesday's Indiana primary.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because Cruz has not yet made the announcement public.

It was a dirty fight and Trump won, I really think Trump can unite the party, it won't be easy lol but they'll soon realize no one can do better than him in the run for the Presidency.

I just watched Ted back out of the race.

It's time for Trump to change his act.


I just watched Mr. Trump give his victory speech and he definitely was the bigger man and really praised Ted Cruz.

I really think the Democrats are in trouble. We have NEVER had such a competitive person run for President.

The longer Sanders is in the race it hurts Hillary. He will give the Republicans plenty of ammunition for November and she wont dare attack him, she stands no chance in November if she doesn't have his supporters.

Senator Cruz made some SERIOUS blunders this past week. The Cruz and Kasich alliance. The Fiorina VP pick and then when Fiorina fell of stage he didn't go to help her.

Since Trump has good relations with the Chinese, perhaps they gave Trump some of Hillary's lost e-mail. :tongue:

* Canada will have to continually be lowering our dollar to stay below the U.S. currency as it declines. um
* It will be nice to see American investments flow/flee north.

** With Trump/will the U.S. walk-out of the U.N. ?

I agree I'm not a big fan of the way he comes off....

I do like the fact that he stirs things up and makes people look at things...

And curious who he will pick...

Honestly I never thought at first he would go through with it that he was just doing it to stir things up and then back off..

He has stated that Trey Gowdy, Sarah Palin, Ben Carson and Chris Christie will be offered spots in his administration. I don't see any as his running mate. Maybe Dr. Carson.

He's wants the nomination, then he will take you into who knows were land. Look I get it nobody wanted Cruz, got it. I don't think he can slam dunk Hillary even with bengazi. His negatives are too high. We're still waiting for him to finish his online associates degree for being presidential. Time is running out. Trump still has a small percentage of women. Minorities are in the toilet for him. So it may come down to the wire.
