MARTIN COUNTY (CBS12) — Water quality so poor, an entire estuary is coated with a toxic fluorescent green algae that can burn your skin if you touch it.

This algae bloom is happening now, just as thousands take to the water for the holiday weekend.

I wonder if there is anyway to pump the water through a filtration system like something fine enough like pantyhose to filter the algae out of the water

As I flew into Jacksonville a few weeks ago, I saw a large amount of what looked like white soap suds in the ocean about a mile off of Jacksonville clear up thru the southern part of Ga. In some areas it had reached the shores or small inlets. A week or two later I read where it was a algae bloom and officials were testing it.

I have seen these before but never spanning that amount of space.

This had started happening about 6 - 7 years ago and has spread further and further. Several calls to the Governor's office brings no response. They either have no idea what to do about it or they just don't care. Until it starts hitting Palm Beach County.
