What bands do u think deserve WAYYYY more credit???

Blind Melon!!! Their albums are incredible from start to finish. "NoRain" massively misrepresents one of the best rock bands in history.

I say Catherine Wheel. "Black Metallic", "Crank", "Eat My Dust You Insensitive F***" (which is a lot more chill than the title implies ) are some of my all time favorites.

The Yardbirds

Skillet- Over the years they have redefined their sound and are one of those rare bands that evolves from album to album.

Nightwish- They are huge in their home country of Finland. And here in the states they have a solid fan base. I guess because they do not make "commercial" type music is the reason why they aren't much bigger here.

Queensryche- Empire was their biggest seller. However Operation Mindcrime is the release that makes them legendary. I do not feel they have ever received the full credit they deserve. The main thing I love about them is that no music genre has ever defined them. They simply rock hard.

Guster. Considering them underrated because it was a kind of a fluke that I heard of them. Airport Song is a good example of their music.

A couple more:

Letters to Cleo. Pop/Rock band with a female lead, and great music and lyrics. They had a few hits but probably would have a few more if they launched a little bit later.

PJ Harvey. Indie Rock artist. She had a lot of press/recognition in the 90s, but she didn't really have a mainstream hit (Down By the Water is the closest, I think). I think she is more artistic and talented than Amy Winehouse, but she hasn't compromised her music for hits. And more power to her for that.

I agree with pj Harvey, I've been listening to her 4 track demos a lot lately actually, my 7 year old says she's a terrible singer! I say everyone should listen to Lene Lovich, from 79-81 or so she released a few albums. I personally think Gwen stefani was influenced by her, awesome voice. Also Kate Pierson from b52's has a phenomenal voice!

That's awesome! Maybe when your 7-year-old is a teenager they'll have a different perspective.

J. Geils band..One of the best live show bands ever.

A note on PJ Harvey. I think she didn't receive the credit she deserved because she came along at a time when Alanis Morisette, Melissa Ethridge, Joan Osbourne and Sheryl Crow were huge. The female alternative revolution was crowded, and you could say that it was saturated. I think Harvey was lumped in to being "just another alt chick". Now....imagine if she had debuted a decade later. She would have been considered "retro", "hip" and "fresh". Just my thoughts though.

I love that you and yetanotherusername1 1. know who I'm talking about and 2. seem to dig her music. I think in addition to the alternative market saturated with women at the time she came along, PJ Harvey also turned people off because of her unconventional looks and unpolished sexuality. My friends and bf in the 1990's didn't get her, they said she was repulsive, too sexual, too weird.

I hate to admit it but even though I was a PJ big fan, I stopped paying attention to her new music after 2000. I just looked up her new stuff on Youtube, it's awesome! Like this one, The Orange Monkey. So much to explore now!

Nothing against Mangini, the new drummer. Just doesn't quite have the flare Portnoy did.

Laurie Anderson, art rock, she did have somewhat of a hit with 'o superman'. I don't know much of her but the big science album but I find it to be such a cool and actually very soothing album to listen to.
