For the men on here- Why do you shave your face? For other men - Why do you decide to grow a beard? I'm just curious. What happened, in your opinion, when you made that choice?
I shave basically for work. but on the weekends I don't shave at all. Many jobs kind of dedicate a clean shaven look..in white collar type work.
Its not a official rule.. but pretty much a known rule.

I often grow a goatee for a few reasons. First, I have a small jaw and a severe overbite so it helps hide it. Second, I find growing the rest out is very itchy and tends to be uncomfortable so I shave the rest of my face. Lastly, I've been told I look better with it.
I am over the beard epidemic! Give me a clean shaven, man anyway!!!!!
Well, lets see.
When I was a kid, I always wanted to be one of the swashbuckling heroes of old, and back then, every damn one of them had a mustache. Unfortunately, thick facial hair doesn't run in my family, so despite trying repeatedly over the years, I never managed a really good one.
The last time I grew my face hair out, it was a combination thing. I was having a great time, watching a very good History of the Civil War series on PBS, and both the Civil War fighters, and their historians, sported all kinds of beard creations. Just for my own entertainment, I decided to grow a micro beard right below my lower lip, but not on my chin, and then a mustache to balance it, in a very CW manner. My wife hated it, but she'd already been on a non-stop hate fest against me for years, so when she didn't like it, it encouraged me more.
After we finally split, and I was back to starting over again, I kept the CW look for a while, until the economic downturn resulted in my losing my job. I went back to clean shaven to get reemployed.
Now I am back in the "facial hair takes more work than shaving" camp, so I don't anticipate growing it back out again.

For me, it just depends on what notion I'm in. To me, I don't look good with a full beard. To me, if you have a fat face like I do a beard only makes it look bigger. But I do sometimes let my stash and around my jaw grow. I have found that a lot of women like it. Even though it does make me look older than what I am. Sometimes I like my face clean. Sometimes I don't care.
Thanks for the feedback. I have dated men clean shaven, beards, only mustache. I was curious about how men feel. I mostly date clean shaven, but not a rule. i like to hear from everyone.
I prefer not to have a beard. I usually shave every morning because it gets harder to shave it off, the longer it gets. It's almost completely white so I can look 10 years older with it. :)
Shave for use of a gas mask in the military. Soldiers bring habits back home. Looks more professional to me. I don't like the act of shaving but, I like knowing that my gas mask seal is not going to break.

At the age of 16 I grew my first beard ....it turned out more like mutton chops as there was nothing on the chin. Drat and that was what I was hoping to camouflage.
Non the less from then on till I was 50 the number of days I was clean shaven i could have counted on one hand. This was encouraged as one time I shaved my full bushy beard off my wife insisted I keep the sheets over my chin while in bed.
Since divorce I have spent most of the time clean shaven but experiment from time to time with different growths mmmmmm not a pretty description :-)
In my youth the idea of having to scrape my face first thing in the morning never appealed. Now with a softer beard that I can actually shave with just water and a four blade razor along with the relaxation that comes with retirement I can find pleasure in shaving.
My father always used to say that not shaving was the height of laziness. Guess he got lazy in his old age too. When he started sporting a full set instead of the Errol Flynn moustache he had in his youth.
At the moment I am tossing up over whether I should shave my chin beard before meeting a lady who has expressed a preference for clean shaven. But I feel I would be robbing her of the experience of my suppa soft beard.
If I get a second date it may include a razor.
I've always had thin hair. When I was in my twenties some a hole told me I wouldn't ever be able to grow a mustache. So I let my mustache grow just in spite. I've worn one ever since. It's great for straining soup and dusting cookies. My beard is very light and gets itchy so I shave the rest of my face.

I have grown a beard at a time when they were more in fashion, but I prefer to shave each day because I feel better clean shaven. Have to find a use for the aftershave I receive at Christmas.
I don't date men with mustaches or beards because I'm not attracted to them.
On some men a mustache does look better, often to do with the shape of their top lip/mouth.
Facial hair I can appreciate is a 5 O'Clock, a bit of stubble. But not every man can get away with that. My ex always said it was itchy as bleep.

I've had mine for years. I try and keep my top lip exposed. But keep my chin covered. *shrugs* not sure why. Probably bevause in my earlier years every on said i looked way younger clean shaven. Lol..
I prefer clean shaven guys. Those guys with the 3 to 4 day stubbles just look sloppy. I deem them as being too lazy to get the razor out everyday.
...but that is just my opinion and preference
