The danger with removing the past (Human History) is that people will make the same mistakes over again.
the past can't be removed, objects can
and when they are, it does not remove the past, but can remove a constant reminder of the pains of the past,,,,or the angst of feeling like an unwelcome guest
can you imagine if there were statues of the terrorists from 9/11? do you think people will say,,,'well, it is part of history, removing it wont change history?'

many things happen in history, but statues generally are seen as an HOMAGE to a person, and there are certain people that citizens do not want to pay to maintain 'homage' to...
I see hear what you're saying, but people need reminding constantly I'm afraid. sad but true. It not a case of paying homage in most cases, apart from the silly radicals.
