agreed msharmony, but you can't have taxes pay for one and not the other. Probably not funded by the government to upset anyone, just it's part of history and they need to keep it going?
Thats the thing with voting, you are GUARANTEED to pay taxes for 'one and not the other' based upon how the vote for 'one' comes out compared to the vote for the 'other'
This is where democracy falls down. It should be irrelevant who's in power, it's done here. You may have a conservative government but the local council (government ) could be labour, so they cut things that create the most outrage!
I think it is where you will have any government 'fall'
it is the huge responsibility to represent millions of individuals, which can never be done , since millions of individuals have different priorities, interests, and concerns,,,,
and it is a huge risk to allow mob rule where the only requirement is a true 'majority', because it nearly guarantees the minority next to no representation even though they have all the same civic duties and expectations placed upon them,,,,
but I do believe it is the best system there is so far,,,,
