When I was in school, teachers had control of their classes. The clothes the we wore and anything printed on them were not considered a distraction. Obscenities and nudity were not tolerated tho.

Teachers did offer their opinions on some things but stayed pretty close to their program. Opinions were expressed only during the off subject open chats we had.
Those opinions were always offered up as a "consider this" kind of comment. Even the "save the whales" passions were left open for consideration.
My school was laid back. It was comprised of rural communities and farmers. It was nothing like the inner city school's turmoil. A fight was few and far between and huge news. Aggressive kids were shunned. There were social groups and all the drama included but there were no gangs controlling the place.

I am sure my experiences then have a direct influence on my opinions and attitude now. Perhaps that is why I see optimistic solutions and don't concentrate heavily on the negative things most others can't help but see? I'm the oddball in an insane world.

freedom of speech prevents LAWS from being passed, it does not prevent schools, employers, or other organizations from having guidelines and regulations

I've been hearing people complain about "free speech" from every side, since I was a kid. I've read claims like this, that "the left" or "the right" or you-name-your-favorite-whipping-boy-group "doesn't understand or support free speech" over, and over, and over, and over again.

Children don't HAVE adult rights. Employees don't have the same rights while they are at work, as they do at home, and those rights are different again when they are out in public areas.

You know what? No one posting HERE has the right to say whatever they want. People on the right, tend to complain about profanity and nudity as forms of expression. People on the left are more likely to complain about threats of violence. Everyone gets mad when some universal enemy is allowed to speak freely, and all kinds of people are pleased as punch when the rights of someone who they DON'T like are abridged.

So enough about pretending that only ONE group is biased about this.

Well if some people get their way they will stop teaching kids history, or it will be so opinionated that it won't matter. Any president that may have owned a slave will be left out even tho it was legal and acceptable at the time. Christoper Columbus for get about that. The Indians were fighting other tribes for thousands of years before white people showed up, and the Indians were fighting them as much as they were fighting them. Tom Saywer Huck Fin, forget about that even tho they've been teaching it for years. And they might as well not teach English class. And we know science can be dangerous and go against religion so can't teach that. Instead of learning and showing how things can be some people would rather live in their own little world, pushing only their ideas and not at least letting others have their views.

There will always be something to complain about.
I try to offer a solution rather than complain.
Dad used to tell me if I am going to complain, offer a solution.

The nation is a big place with a huge diversity of religions and cultures.
There will always be people complaining about something, never offering a solution, never giving others merit for their opinions but expecting everyone to agree with theirs.
It is a personality trait learned when young.

If parents properly teach their children most of the turmoil will diminish. Its like TV being a babysitter. The media and trends teach our children. They grow up accepting or rejecting what they learn from the TV, phone or computer and fail to consider the world right in front of them as reality. When the delusions fail it increases stress levels.

Just Fyi, in case you didn't realize it: public schools are entirely locally controlled. The agenda and the textbooks are all selected by your local (mostly Republican) state legislatures. The President has no direct say in any of it. So if you were afraid that what you are seeing around you these days is the result of Obama's years in office, be assured, it's the opposite, if anything. Blame your local Governors and other nearby leadership.

although I don't think freedom to express oneself should be blocked, but thanks to the media it is far different than 4 or 8 yrs. ago. When Obama was elected they only showed the pro Obama rally's , and how great he was...you never saw the negative coverage. So they built Obama to be a hero.Now it's a every day 24/7 bashing of trump on all there leftist news channel. same as any other dept.... if the schools don't conform to governmental standards and guidelines, the government cuts the grants/funding...

yes and no,, schools get funding on several different fronts, they can deny some funds and not others, based upon what they CHOOSE to include in their curriculum

I don't think it really matters as much to what the actual government mandates... each party "recommends " for the school boards... each party sends memos to the cities repubs and dems to push there own agendas... it's been gay and tranny agenda and to be quite about muslims...for the last 8 years

being 'quiet' about muslims has been since I was in school because there's nothing to say ...

as to the LGBTQ agenda, I agree the local and state level have followed a pattern of immersing our kids in it,,,

I remember when I was in high school..when Regan was shot my history teacher brought cake and ice cream and claimed it was a day to celebrate..too bad he lived she said..I shook my head in disgust..she asked why and I said it's not right to celebrate the President being shot at..then she said that the reason I can't get a decent grade in her class was instead of thinking with the right side of my brain I spend too much time not paying attention to what matters.. I told her she spends too much time speaking with the left side of her brain instead of teaching history..then I walked out..failed history..teachers personal political opinions don't belong in the classroom..
