I think there's a difference between refusing to be involved with the ongoing challenges of our lives involving politics, and refusing self-blinding political allegiances.

To avoid politics altogether is to leave the direction of society to others. But it is not necessary or even logical, and certainly not wise, to join a "side," and push it's agenda without regard for circumstances and facts of the moment.
